Vehicle Technician Tasks and Responsibilities
The tasks you will generally be expected to perform would be as follows:
- Inspect, service, repair and prepare vehicles for MOT
- Diagnose, report faults and best means of repair
- Road test and quality check all completed work
- Participate in technical assessments and training as required
- Carry out electrical and mechanical repairs
- Assign repair work to relevantly skilled members of the team
- Maintain a clean, safe and healthy working environment
- Complete job cards and warranty paperwork accurately in relation to each job
What Does a Vehicle Technician Earn in the UK
It is very much dependent on skill set and experience, for instance a Master Technician will be paid a far higher basic salary compared to a Tyre and Exhaust Fitter. A tyre and Exhaust Fitter can expect a basic salary from £17,000 to £21,000 plus bonus whereas a Master Technician can have a basic salary of £30,000 plus.
Expected Hours of Work
Most vehicle technicians work an 8 hour day Monday to Friday with alternate Saturday mornings but for example a HGV Technician could work 12 hour shifts four on and four off.
